This is a filter for parallel beams with a cross-section up to 1 inch (25,4 mm) in diameter. The filter allows working with IR radiation of high intensity. The unwanted IR radiation is not absorbed, but reflected onto the heat-sink of the filter case. The micrometric screw setting selects the cutoff wavelength. The cutoff wavelength border becomes sharper when the angle of beam divergence decreases.
In our laboratory this filter is used with the CERMAX LX-300 Xe lamp.
To the right: filter transmission curves for different micrometric screw settings: top, unlimited beam divergence; middle, horizontal divergence of 36 milliradians; bottom, horizontal divergence of 12 milliradians
